Chapultepec – The Most Popular Neighborhood in Guadalajara for Foreign Students

Guadalajara’s Chapultepec neighborhood is highly favored by foreign travelers and international students. With the presence of many entertainment options, this part of the city is always bustling. The tree-lined streets, the fountains, and the wide boulevard add to the inviting atmosphere of the Chapultepec neighborhood.There are several factors that make this neighborhood so popular among international students.

Where is Chapultepec in Guadalajara?

Chapultepec is located close to the historic center of Guadalajara, which consists of many famous colonial buildings, churches and plazas. It is also close to Templo Expiatorio, a beautiful neo-Gothic church. Outside the church, there is a plaza where you will find a market on weekends selling delicious food items. Another famous attraction, the University of Guadalajara’s Arts Museum is located near the Chapultepec neighborhood.

You will find local markets like Mercado Juárez and Mercado Alcade within a reasonable distance from the neighborhood where you can buy fresh fruits, vegetables, and other grocery items. Another popular market, Mercado Vía Libertad is also in proximity to Chapultepec. This market consists of a wide range of eateries where you can enjoy some delicious food, drinks, and desserts with your friends.

Also, the University of Guadalajara is at a distance of approximately 2 km from Chapultepec.

For moving around, you can use the bike rental system Mibici, take a bus or easily hire a taxi or Uber in this neighborhood.

Chapultepec is the favorite spot for the young crowds in Guadalajara. This neighborhood consists of the some of the most popular bars of the city. There are plenty of cafes, and multi-cuisine restaurants as well.

What to do in Chapultepec

Chapultepec is a very lively neighborhood as there is always something going on in this area. The most popular event that takes place in this neighborhood is the annual parade of the International Mariachi festival. The parade including many Mariachi bands from various parts of the world, folk dancers and colorful floats, passes along the Chapultepec Avenue.

Tianguis Chapultepec is another popular attraction in this neighborhood. These markets take place on weekends, and you will find a wide range of items like jewelry, handicrafts, books, artworks and more. Many cultural activities take place in these markets, and you find many street performers as well.

A dancing event, Chapultepec Salsero takes place every Monday at 6:30 pm on the Chapultepec Avenue. People learn Salsa and Bachata in the open space. Anyone can participate in this event, it is totally free, and it is a great spot for meeting new people.

Many concerts also take place in Chapultepec on weekends, and thousands of people gather in this area. The atmosphere of this neighborhood is really amusing and lively.

On Sundays and holidays, a popular outdoor event Vía Recreactiva takes place in Guadalajara where a few roads of the city are partially closed to allow people to engage in many recreational activities. You will find many people freely riding their bikes, walking their dogs, and skateboarding on the Chapultepec Avenue.
